Although Taylor Swift wasn’t in attendance at the People’s Choice Awards, she was still mentioned in the form of a joke, and her ‘ex’ Tom Hiddleston couldn’t help but chuckle.
The former celebrity couple met at a pre–Met Gala dinner in May 2016, however, at the time, Taylor Swift was still dating music star Calvin Harris. Although, by June the two were spotted hand in hand, and the Cruel Summer singer quickly met the parents. However, it wasn’t meant to be, as they called it quits just three months later.

It didn’t take long before the singer was mentioned at the awards show in California, as Barbie actor and host Simu Liu mentioned her in his opening monologue.
“Finally, for the most iconic pop culture moment of the year, who could forget that one little movie about a blonde American icon that had the entire country dressing up, dancing the night away, and making huge waves at the box office,” the actor said.
Of course, audiences thought he was referencing Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, in which he starred as a version of Ken.
“I’m talking of course about Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie,” he then said to a cheering audience. “Oh, I’m sorry did you think I was gonna say the other — no, no. Look, I was a Swiftie long before I was Ken. Okay? Just wanted to be super clear where my loyalties lay.”
“I’m a 1989 baby so Taylor and I, we’re bonding,” the star concluded.
The camera then cheekily penned to the Loki star, who could be seen laughing away. Of course, social media went wild over the moment, as the video circulated on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I’M DYING SIMU TALKING ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT AND THE CAMERA WENT TO TOM HIDDLESTON. IM DEADDDDDDDDDDD!!” exclaimed one entertained fan.
“The way Tom Hiddleston laughs at a Taylor Swift positive joke. That guy was always smiles when Taylor gets brought up. I wish him well. Truly,” another penned.
A third commented: “The camera panning to Tom Hiddleston after the Taylor Swift reference was perfection.”
The music star secures four wins at the award show
After receiving five nominations for the 2024 awards, the singer took home all but one. Female Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, Concert Tour of the Year, and Social Celebrity of the Year went to Swift.
The only category she missed out on was Movie of the Year, for her Eras Tour concert film, as the award went to Barbie.
These four wins take her total of People’s Choice Awards up to 20. Her boyfriend Travis Kelce also took home an award, for Athlete of The Year.
Speaking about his nomination on his New Heights podcast in January, the NFL star said: “What did I do to get Athlete of the Year? I did SNL. How am I on this [list]?”
However, a Super Bowl win with the Kansas City Chiefs may say otherwise.
