Simon Jordan has joked he spent most of the £4.2million he racked up at a hotel on its mini-bar.

The talkSPORT presenter was talking to host Jim White when the topic of discussion turn to when he spent ten years of his life living in a hotel.

Jordan revealed on the radio chat show: “I lived in a hotel for 10 years!” White said: “Really?" Jordan then affirmed with: “Yes.”

White then cheekily asked: “When you checked out of that hotel, what was the bill? To which Jordan replied: “It came to £4.2m… £3.9m was the minibar.”

The reaction to the interaction was mixed, with one blasting: “Wow 4.2 million for ten years is appalling… no wonder this world messed up. Got these two nattering b***** on radio getting paid a decent amount and footballers running about with a ball on 900k a year and nursed who went uni 3 years struggling to make a living.”

Another said: “Think if you had £0 outlay for food drink and accommodation staying in a swanky hotel for 10 years, made money out of your money. Then paid a bill at the end out of your profit, thats good business.”

A third one stated: “I stayed at the Grosvenor whilst in London back a few years ago. He was in the bar there. Nice hotel.”

Jordan made his millions in the mobile phone industry. Following which, he purchased Crystal Palace and was chairman there until 2010.

He now presents on talkSPORT, with a good level of insight on club ownership and business within the sport - though his takes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Recently, Jordan came into the firing line after he made a joke about Newcastle supporters’ literacy skills after fan group Wor Flags unveiled a banner mocking the presenter. A pre-match display before the Magpies’ 5-1 win against Brentford referenced a comment said about the then-looming takeover.

“This idea that Newcastle is going to get bought by this PIF fund is deader than a dead thing from dead land,” Jordan said on the show last year. “It’s only the people that want to keep it running for their own motivations, whether that’s Amanda Staveley because she wants to save face for the Horlicks of a deal she’s manufactured, or whether it’s Newcastle fans because they’re wishing and wanting.

“I don’t expect it (the CAT case) to lead to any particular disclosure. I don’t expect the Premier League to be giving anything that vaguely resembles something that can be made mischief of."

It was Jordan’s “deader than a dead thing from dead land” comment that was used as inspiration for the latest display by the fans group - but Jordan responded with: “I was surprised by that because you said to me ‘it couldn’t have been the Newcastle fans because they can’t spell’. I was surprised to see it so well put together.”
