A large number of people in the Pine Belt region have been targeted by a phishing scam, according to a press release from Central Sunbelt FCU. Victims have gotten a text message that asks for personal debit card information. For example: Your check card has been deactivated. Please call 801-822-0805. Callers are then prompted to enter their full 16-digit card number and PIN.
Central Sunbelt officials reminded the public that their financial institution already has access to account holders’ information and would only request enough information to verify a person for security purposes. Account holders should never reveal their full card number, CVV/CVC code (three numbers on the back of their card) or PIN.
